nebula song 04:51
someone once said what if city is a station in space as we seek transmissions assuming languages relate (and i say) 就讓我和每顆擦肩而過的星星之間 聽見 恍若相同的語言 就在我和你之間想像某種共同的牽連 就算交會 只是轉瞬之間 someone once said what if it’s hard to breathe at times when you’re far away on your own freefall towards no arrival (and i say) in between i and nebulas passing me by let me pray as if they understand all words i say in between every you crossing let us imagine we’re the same although it aches to leave for unknown terrain again towards the sky i fall passing heaven seen by none towards the void the moon spirals spinning backwards reversed horizon towards the nightmare i explore visions of truth merged with the false a weary comet witnessed rivers passing deserts descending earth somewhere i belong to end and begin gravity to spin away over and over again coming home

teltoya ii 03:50
as if out of nowhere circumstances you thought you forget ringing in your head the call you never answered with nowhere to hide confronts this time there’s something in here can’t you see something in here that you need something in here that i need there’s something in you can’t you see and in this moment you turn into an island somewhere i swam away from something called home from your mouth comes the melody remembered in dreams that is yours in time on my own i recognised your face as words playback i recite the lines over and over in the mirror you grew into mine and im one from a distance you’ve grown into an island somewhere i swam away from something called home from my mouth comes the melody long escaped me that is yours that i belong somewhere abandoned questions and replacement something you search for something drift away from all my life repeat the same lines does it matter it’s all that matters thru our lives we try but never fully understand in love you are free set someone free

about

After releasing ‘Times New Roman’, Taipei-based singer and producer Scintii returns with a new four-track EP titled 'wetlands, harbours… and stations in between'

‘Times New Roman’ was the first release since Scintii’s second EP, Aerial/Paperbags, on SVBKVLT in 2018.

'wetlands, harbours… and stations in between' is the all-encompassing new sonic project, with the first single from the ‘teltoya ii’ out today to mark the announcement, which is set for a digital and physical release on 5th January 2024.

Scintii, an artist whose instantly recognisable vocals and sound takes inspiration from two cities previously called home, London and Shanghai, tracks take us through wistful yet impactful vocals, and ear for production that disregards any traditional genre forms, opening our minds to a new captivating blend of synth-driven electronica, and moody, atmospheric beats.

Songwriting comes first in the music-making process for Scintii; by responding to music and ideas in an instructive way, she starts with an organic and original form and elaborates on it.

'teltoya ii' came initially from a dream Scintii had that immediately stuck her with the desire to create sound, specifically the drum-like sound that takes centre stage within. ‘teltoya ii’ is the final track on wetlands, harbours… and stations in between. Matching the nature of the EP’s overarching and deliberate disregard for narrative structure, it perhaps offers up more beautiful questions than it answers, leaving us with the boundless and exciting potential for future exploration and endless interpretation.

--------------

With co-production credits by Bristol-based producer Hodge (track 1) and Soda Plains (tracks 2-4), Scintii continues with a signature wistfulness, with an occasional harder-edged tone too, dream-like synths and airy vocals seep throughout, making this a truly unignorable next step in the artist’s growing and highly exciting ongoing catalog.

Whilst often inherently personal, Scintii has not committed to a conclusion for the stories and questions this release traces, rather, leaves it up to the listener to decipher. There is no strict narrative to the project; moreover, it exists as a beautifully open-ended exploration of personal anecdotes and dreams, as well as memories of place, family, and sense of belonging.

“After finishing these songs, it took me a long time to summon up the courage to look back on their personal meanings and give them names,” Scintii explains. “It’s as if I’m standing at the entrance of a wild labyrinth made of intertwined confusion such as sense of belonging, distance, to connect and leave behind, cycles of light and darkness…” In not offering us any easy answers, this intuitive creator leaves the listener with a beautifully open-ended project that speaks about themes such as home and place, and a labyrinth of themes that emit both shadows - darkness and mystery - as well as brightness – hope, happiness, and longing.
